Hi, excuse me. Do you know where is [_fill in the blank_]?04 Sep
If you’re like me you would understand what I’m referring to.
Have you ever experienced being asked for directions by complete strangers?
I have! And strangely enough it happens to me as frequent as I’m out! And I’m proud to proclaim that my success rate is on the higher percentile. (Not blowing my horn, just merely polishing it. Hahaha!)
Just the other day while waiting for a bus somewhere along Clementi Road, I was once again, called upon by the power of the divine to hand out directions. Only the difference this time is I didn’t have the answer! Slightly demoralizing I must say.
It was a fairly simple question, “Brother, you know which bus goes to Seng Siong Jurong West? “Jalan Papan?” “AYE?”
I said, “Urmm you are on the wrong side, this side goes to Bukit Timah”.
All I could do was to point him the bus stop across the road to check out what buses are there.
So OK what right? I did give the best possible answer right?
Here’s the thing, Firstly, (not being discriminatory), I assume he was a foreign laborer, Secondly, it was already 11pm and I think he was lost (by the expression on his face), Thirdly, I cant believe I didn’t have the answers! Hahaha. That’s a little bit obsessive I know, but I love to help people and I get a kick to always have the answers and brighten someone’s day!
At that moment of time I wished I had a Street or a Bus Directory (which I do carry sometimes) with me. Or maybe a smart phone as well.
So the morale of the story is this.
1. Never stop learning and discovering – so that you would always have the answers
2. Always be prepared
3. Its OK not to have the answer sometimes, just be sure to find out and learn from it. Immediately!
Go on. Help someone. :]
Your Sincerely,
Mudd
