Hey guys, it’s been a while since I’ve updated what’s happening with MUDD & NADD.

This update brings good news!

While doing our usual rounds around Singapore looking for interesting finds and cool things to do, we visited IOLA!

Two days ago I bumped into my long lost army mate Afiq! A short update at the traffic light (I know, cliché right?) about what’s happening in our lives, I found out that he is running a shop at 16 Haji Lane.

And I was like, “What the hell?!” (in a good way of course).

And this lead me to visit his shop the next day. Cosy place to hang out and Nadd can attest to that. We spent a good 3 hours chatting and catching up and trying on the clothes (well at least I did! hehe)

So what’s so special with IOLA?

Well, IOLA Originals is dedicated to bringing you top quality brand name apparel at low, low prices.

Brands like TOM TAILOR, H&M, Everlast, Esprit, ZARA, Greystone and GAP to name a few. And NO, they are not rejected stuffs. Good original stuffs at low low price. Yup! Believe it! :]

So what’s the good news?

IOLA is having a 45% discount storewide in conjunction with Singapore’s 45th birthday! (And it will end on 9 Aug 2010)

But that’s not the good news.

The GOOD NEWS is, if you visit the store and said that MUDD & NADD sent YOU. You will receive an additional 5% discount! That will make a total of 50% discount! Crazy? It’s true!

So go on, go on a shopping spree at 16 Haji Lane, you’d be pleasantly surprise of the bargains you could find there. (And ouh, Afiq is a nice fella to have a chat with too.)

Remember, tell him MUDD & NADD sent you to claim your 50% discount!

Happy National Day!

-Mudd-

P.S. Do visit http://www.facebook.com/16HajiLane to see some of the stuffs he has.

P.P.S. Are you in MUDD & NADD – Events Planning Sidekicks Facebook Group? Click HERE!

Have you ever been to a function where there is a nice spread of food and it’s all you can eat?

And at the end of the gluttonous adventure you decided that you had enough for the time being and you want to dispose your tools of desire (AKA plates and utensils) only to discover in your epic horror, you can’t find the trash point!

So how now?!?!?!??!

Annoying isn’t it?

I’ve been to one such function recently. Not that I’m being nitpicky, but such situation will just create a lot of awkwardness. (Since the aim of EVERY event is to make your guest feel comfortable)

Imagine, YOU’ve just finish eating a whole LOT of food and you would like to dispose of the evidence but you can’t find the rubbish point. What do you do next?

In a civilize society you would find the nearest server/helper and explained your peculiarity and get them to help you locate that rubbish point.

In a semi-civilized society (sadly where I’m from), ignorant farts would just place it on the serving table. Yes! The serving table! (this will just create more awkwardness!)

Or if they could locate a rubbish bin (or something that looks like one) they would just place the rubbish next to it (if it was a close unit bin) or they would just pile it up (if it has overflowed)!

So planners, pleaseeeeee, set up that rubbish point! Here are some tips to get you going.

1. Set your rubbish point near the serving area (putting a trash bag underneath the water dispenser is a no-no. Although many are practicing this, bottom line, it is just unhygienic!)

2. Get a good size rubbish bin with a good size opening. Those that has always been originally around the function room/hotel/reception area (You know. Those that is already there before you came, before the place opens, the one that have always been there) are NOT mean for catering purposes. A shocker? Believe it.

3. Have somebody to manage the bins. Nothing worsts that seeing an overflowing bin with chicken bones or laksa gravy dripping. Always double, triple, quadruple the trash bags in the bin before hand. This will make maintaining the bin easier. Just tie-grab-go. Easy! Repeat after me. Tie. Grab. Go!

4. Finally, after you have tied, grabbed and go. You better go! Don’t leave the tied up bag beside the bin. Dispose it off properly. Don’t get me started on the need of knowing/having a centralize waste point.

Hope this helps!

Found an interesting article in the newspaper last week.

It is the latest findings from Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) Lifestyle survey.

It hit me like a soft pillow in my face at a high velocity and got me thinking to recreate the survey with you guys!

TWO things I would love to determine by administering the survey,

1. To determine if the national survey results is congruent with what Mudd&Nadd readers is seeking out

2. To determine what you all like to see more off and in turn we’ll make that requests come true! (We are your events planning sidekicks afterall :])

Sounds good?

If you missed the first one, you can read all about it here.

This time round we up the ante. First, it was totally random. Like totally not planned. (Coz the first one was rather planned but the buses were random nonetheless!)

And secondly, we captured it on video! Add a little music to it and we have a short film documentary of our journey. The plot is the bus journey scenery and the different emotions we experienced! Enjoy!

So what do you think? Like it?

If you do, please drop by our Facebook Group and like the video. http://groups.to/muddnadd

We are also tinkering with the idea of making a full length documentary centered around random bus ride.

Would you be keen to be part of it? Do tell us!

Cheers!~

It was another day at the “office”, we were enjoying our latte and frap and when suddenly a whole gush of people entered our office!

One of them was panting and approaching the other patrons asking for something. We were perplexed. We thought to ourselves, “What happened?” “Why are they looking in a haste and harassing people?”

Being the true blue red and white with stars all over, I peered my ears to have a closer listen.

What I heard, interest me…

“Hi! We are having a teambuilding event and we are playing a scavenger hunt game and we need to collect 5 name cards!” “Do you have a name card?”

Others were much more calm and had a different approach, “Hi, do you work around here?” “I’m attending a teambuilding activity and my task is to collect name cards” “Do you have a name card?”

The second approach was better and less startling. And it worked quite well!

So you might ask, “This is so interesting meh?”

Of course it is! This is a good example of matching the activity to the crowd!

By observing the way they dress and speak we deduced that they were professionals working around the area. We felt that the teambuilding game was simple and very effective. And not only that, it was a good opportunity to network!

Imagine collecting all those name cards and following up with a thank you mail saying you were the one harassing them earlier. You will definitely be remembered!

So the next time you are planning an activity and event, do take into consideration the target crowd and match the activity to the crowd. Not only will you score points with your audience, it will make it easier for you to run the programme since they are in their element and comfort zone.

But don’t sway away too much! Do still keep in mind the event objective as well! :]

Tickle me Tuesday!

Yes that’s right, we got stuck!

We got stuck in the middle of the expressway! Yes the expressway!

But it’s damn exciting!

We were on the way back from IKEA Tampines and boarded a bus to Woodlands Interchange. Halfway through the journey what seems to happen only to unlucky people happened to us! The bus was literally crawling its way down the expressway before it decided to die on us.

The heroic bus captain tried a few things to revived his dying vessel but to no avail. He even off the engine (which left us all in the dark in the middle of the expressway!) and turn it on again but still no sign of life.

So by virtue of the incredibly efficient transportation system that we have and which we have taken for granted at least once or twice before, another gentle giant (mind you, it was a double-decker bus) rumbled down beside his dying friend to our rescue. And all these happen within 10mins! Fast huh?! (This was possible to the efficient mayday call by the captain, which was audible all the way up the second deck where we were seated at.)

OK enough fairytale; lets get take the pictures do the talking!

The bus in a halt. Notice the other vehicle whizzing by?
Yes, we were on the front seats too. Hee.

Passengers transferring to the rescue bus.

Now its our turn!

So the morale of the story is (Tan Ah Teck style – If you don’t know who this is ask someone older to enlighten you) good or bad luck is how you perceived it. We were definitely the only 2 excited ones on the bus (hence, the picture taking)! In fact, we were rushing to catch the last train, but that didn’t cloud our judgment. So whether something is good or bad, it is subjective. And most time you can find good things in bad situations! (I’m seeing you nodding your head. Good Job!) :]

Oh! We got our bus fee waived plus a complimentary ticket for future bus ride too! Now isn’t that lucky!

Cheers~

-Mudd-

P.S. And if you are wondering what we were doing at IKEA, you just have to wait for the pictures on Monday!
P.P.S. And yes, we managed to catch the last train. :]
