What are you doing today?29 Dec

The 3rd last day of 2009.

Someone told me before:  “how you spent the last day of the year reflects on how the coming year is going to be for you”.  I’m not so sure the truth in that phrase but oh well, to each his own.

These final 2 days of the year will definitely make you look back on the past 360 days, yes? What you enjoyed most of the year, what you hated, what you gained & lost, what you’ve accomplished…

Like how Dick Solomon from 3RD Rock From The Sun look back in retrospect on his past year in this hilarious episode!

(3RD Rock From The Sun: Happy New Dick! – Part 1)

I’m sure we’ve been in his shoes before! I love what the Episode ( if you watch all 3 parts) underlines – Make the best out of any day, think back on how you can be better & look forward to the new year positively!

Oh, & of course, celebrate the coming of the new year with your loved ones & you cannot go wrong!

If you’re still not sure what to do this New Year’s Eve, fret not! We found plenty of things (both free & not-so-free) for you! Where? SG Things To Do Today, of course! Make the most out of your New Year’s Eve, yes? :)

I think 2009’s been a really fruitful & fun year for us! :)

We hope it has been for you too!

Keep on Rockin’!

All Laughs,
Nadd

Everyday Jumble & Stumble!26 Nov

We always look forward to early meetings. There’s a new spirited energy that the morning brings (although the getting out of bed thing might be a bit of a struggle but that’s another story).

Whilst we’re energy (& sugar) most of the time, sometimes we do get our own waves of normalcy – feeling unproductive! One particular early morning left us quite lethargic that it led us to do what we love best – walking!

From City Hall to Bugis to Dhoby Ghaut. It might not seem so far for all you sports buffs, but hey, under the hot sun it was really an energy drainer.

(view from a curb)

But well, while on a short smoke/water/butt break at an unglamorous curb & looking around the neighbourhood, we spotted some shops that gave us a dose of inspiration!

Pretty soon we were up & about, scouring some decor shops, jotting down ideas, taking down prices, looking through aisles, brainstorming more ideas, comparing prices, doing sketches & talking about what we could do.

It’s funny- We stumbled upon productiveness when we decided not to be productive.

So lesson learnt : When feeling unproductive or downright lazy, fight it, put yourself in a relaxed position & get inspired! You’ll be able to achieve more that way! & we did just that! :)

I hope you stumble onto something good today!

Stumble-r Sidekick,
Nadd

“You Had Me At Hello”28 Oct

Don’t ask me why, but I like calling people better than e-mailing them for information.

Call me backward, but listening to someone’s nice sweet tone at the other line instead of staring at words on a screen seem so much more friendlier.

The best thing about calling other people – You can play with your voice! This may sound rather deceitful but trust me it’s not & of course, the intention is not meant to cheat (in fact it’s REALLY just for fun!).

Over the phone, you can sound Grown-up (with a firmer voice) Or a macho man (with a deep-setting voice) Or a Mr. Know It All (with an uppity tone) Or just play Little Miss Enthusiastic (& add exclamation marks at the end of every sentence!).

Why? Well, I discovered plenty of things about myself, like how I communicate with others, by experimenting my tones & sounds to suit what I want to say. And the best thing is, because usually the person on the other line is someone that you will only speak to just once (like a bank customer service officer), it doesn’t matter what kind of voice you make, they wouldn’t mind!

You can even try out fake accents! I for one, usually do this when I’m bored & up for mixing my work with a little bit of fun! :)

Happy Accent-ing!

Here’s to funny sounds,

Random is the New Black!26 Oct

How would you like it if this happened to you:

Surprise Wedding Reception by ImprovEverywhere

Cool isn’t it? :)

Seems that flash mob aren’t the only thing catching on. I guess ImprovEverywhere came first since they’ve been around for 8 years now! The idea is still the same though: Come together, be randomly but organisingly chaotic and just be merry!

Check out Improv Everywhere for more details & wacky Ideas!!

Sounds fun doesn’t it? I’m thinking, Hey, We would so love to do that too! One day, maybe we shall! :) Who’s with me?

‘Till then, Go Random!

Smiles,
Nadd :)

It’s What You Make Of It!18 Oct

Whilst taking a break from work, I spotted an unseemingly normal question on a Facebook Status.

Question: Is there any interesting place that I can go to in Singapore? There really isn’t any place that’s fun!

And someone answered: It’s doesn’t matter if nowhere’s interesting. It’s how you make the place interesting to you that counts!

Which is oh so true!

Not many people realize that sometimes a place might look incredibly boring but remember, no one wants to plan or build a place to bore people. Well, unless you’re at a Sleeping clinic for insomniacs maybe! :)

If you unknowingly find yourself in that un-interesting situation (bored, listless & yawning your day away), here’s a couple of things you can do:

  • Bring a camera out & shoot anything & anyone that you find to be randomly colourful or interesting. Shoot sideways, upside down, horizontally & see how quirky your pictures can appear.
  • Grab a couple of friends, dress up according to a chosen theme & go paint the town red! You don’t even have to do anything – Walking along Orchard Road / CityHall / Raffles Place is an adventure enough!
  • Or simple enough, bring a friend to these events / places & stage a photoshoot!

How’s that for spicing things up! :)

As the random person said, It’s not where, it’s what you make of it that’s interesting! Have fun!

Always Random!

My Watch went into a Coma Today!13 Oct

In this era of ever increasing reliance to technology, one can’t leave home without at least one piece of technology in their possession.

What has this got to do with my watch?

Ouh well, I have a digital watch. Hahaha

Today for the first time in 5 years it went into a coma! To my horror, the screen was blanked out at around 2pm. I thought for sure the battery was flat. Rather disappointed I must say, coz its my favorite watch!

And you know how you have a habit of looking at your watch everytime you want to know the time? (hahaha! Oxymoron!)

Yea I was disappointed. It has become very habitual that when I looked at it during its coma I was very disappointed and felt lost since the screen was blank. Had to resort to my handphone, which I had to take out from my pocket to tell the time. No more flickering of the wrist to tell time. Yes, it was demoralizing.

Then lunch happen and I was trying to recuperate it. I randomly press all the buttons in a random manner and viola! It came back to life!

The moral of the story?

Being random helps!

Random-Mandom,
Mudd

p.s. Are you guys planning to do the random bus ride? Do tell us! Cheers!

Lessons in the Morning!01 Oct

For the very first time in my life, I attended a Business Network meeting on Wednesday. It really threw me off course – I thought I was going to be tired & worn out seeing how we had to be there by 7.30am

I was so glad to be wrong!

Everyone’s upbeat, cheering each other & enthused by the positive energy  that each of them brings to the table.  The time spent was worth it. Here are some lessons that I’ve picked up from that morning encounter:

  • “The early bird catches the early worm”.
  • Be the first to smile!
  • Keep the speeches short, sweet  & simple.
  • Don’t wait: make the first move.
  • Un-expectations can be an advantage.
  • Be open to comments.
  • When given the opportunity, network!

Simple and yet great reminders of good morals for me to learn from.

Too early or not, it has opened up my eyes to the many great possibilities of networking. I hope we’ll be given another opportunity again !:)

Till then, here’s to being early!

Stay Upbeat!

Do something relaxing!21 Sep

I never knew how therapeutic snapping pictures can be until I tried it for one entire Sunday.

It’s not so much the clicking of cameras but rather the crazy poses, smiling, forcing smiles, laughing & the rushing to strike a pose before the timer goes off! & with a bunch of crazy cousins, the whole taking-a-family-picture process turns out to be a relaxing activity that can last 15 minutes at a time. Even then, we would still be snapping pictures anyway!

& it’s the easiest of activity too! All you need is a bunch of gung-ho friends, lots of cameras & a nice background setting (well, sometimes you don’t even need a nice background – we took pictures in the jam-packed lift!).

And the best thing is, if you want to edit, omit or just play a doodle prank on anyone, all you need to do is photoshop!

You’ve really gotta try being a pseudo model for 1 day. You know this will be relaxing, coming from me the person who dislikes being in pictures!  :)

Share with me other fun stuff you do to relax & post up wacky pictures that you might have! :)

Have a great week!

Laugh always!

Things to Do on a Bus!16 Sep

I know how dreary a bus ride might sound.

A couple of boring bus rides can bore you to death. So before the thrill of it all kill your randomness, here’s some simple games to entertain you & your friends:

1. I Spy With My Little Eye

  • it’s a really simple childhood game. Basically you take turn to be spotters & try to seek something that is unusual & hard to spot things (like leftover stickers on poles). Every sentence has to begin with “I Spy With My Little Eye…”

2. Hot Colour!

  • Start off the journey with one colour in mind. (say: orange!) Once the bus ride starts, everytime you see something in orange, yell out: That’s Hot! The person who spots th;me most number of “Orange-s” gets to pick the next colour!

3. Play Pretend Tour-guide!

  • This is fun if you’re playing in a group. Objective is simple: Be Silly! Take turns commentating & making up stories on the location and places that the bus passes.

& of course, there are tons of things you can do besides these games. Have you ever played Bingo on a bus? Or simply just sketching each other while enjoying the ups & downs of road travel.

Or do what we did…  Just take in the sights & enjoy each other’s company!

:) Go try & tell me what other games you played!

Okay Go!
